3 Most Important Computer Languages
What Is A Computer Language?
A computer language, or more precisely a programming language, is the formal constructed language designed to communicate instructions to a machine, or more precisely the computer which then uses these instructions to create programs which control the behavior of a machine or expresses algorithms. So far, thousands of computer languages have been created, and many more are being created every year. The programming languages are usually split into two components: syntax and semantics, or form and the meaning respectively. Some languages are defined by a specification document whereas other have dominant implementation which is treated as a reference.
Even though there are numerous computer languages, the following three are essential in the programming world, therefore, they are definitely worth mentioning in this introductory article about computer languages.
1.Java Programming Language
Java is a programing language that is object oriented and it has been specifically designed to have few implementation dependencies. The developers of this computer language intended for it to be used everywhere. This means that Java can be run on all platforms that support Java without the need for recompilation. Also, Java applications can be run on any Java virtual machine (JVM) regardless of computer architecture. Since 2015, Java has been noted as one of the most popular programming languages in use, and has been reported to have 9 million developers. Originally, Java was developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems and released in 1995 as a core component of the Sun Microsystems.
2.C++ Programming Language
The C++ programming language is a general-purpose programming language that has imperative, object-oriented and generic programming features. Furthermore, C++ also provides facilities for low-level memory manipulation. This programming language has been designed with a bias toward system programing and has been found useful in many contexts including desktop applications, servers, but also entertainment software. C++ is a complied language that has implementations that make it available on many platforms provided by various organizations, such as: FSF, LLVM, Microsoft, Intel and IBM. C++ has also influenced many other computer languages including the newer versions of C, C#, and Java.
3.C Programming Language
C programming language is used for general-purpose programming, and includes structured programming, lexical variable scope and recursion. The design of C programming language allows the constructs to map efficiently the machine instructions and because of this property C has been used in many applications, but also some operating systems and application software. C was originally developed by Dennis Ritchie, around the year 1970, but since it has been one of the most widely used programming language of all times.
This article is meant to give you a general introduction into programming languages, but of course you must be aware that computer languages are constantly changing, evolving, developing and new ones are being created. Therefore, computer programming requires constant learning. Hopefully, this introduction will inspire you to learn and read more about computer languages.
